Bergamot Essential Oil

Bergamot is a hybrid: half bitter orange, half lemon, grown for its peel rather than its flesh. Perfumery has used it for centuries, and it is the scent in Earl Grey tea. What makes it useful on skin is its composition: limonene makes up thirty to forty per cent of the oil and works as an antioxidant, while linalool and linalyl acetate are what settle skin down rather than winding it up. Together they help clarify and purify, which is why bergamot suits skin that turns oily and shiny through the day.
