Our Climate Action plan

Sustainability

Viva Maia is made in Mexico and shipped to our warehouse in Germany. That journey, our packaging and our production all leave a footprint. On this page we share what we are doing about it, what we have not solved yet, and only what we can back up with evidence.

Expanding sea freight

Since October 2025, all our Bars have travelled from Mexico to our warehouse in Germany by sea. Our goal is to make sea freight the standard across our full product range by October 2027. To support this transition, we are adapting our formulations for a longer shelf life, allowing for the additional weeks at sea while maintaining product quality and safety.

Ingredients, production and plastic

Wherever possible, we deliberately choose ingredients native to Mexico's arid regions, plants adapted to dry conditions. Since early 2026, the solar panels at our main manufacturer in Mexico have generated more electricity than the plant uses. Through our partnership with rePurpose Global, we funded the recovery of 4,546 kg of plastic waste in the last 12 months, more than five times the plastic we place on the market. This tackles plastic pollution; we do not count it as a reduction of our own emissions. We review this page every year. Last updated: September 2026.

Packaging by design

We reduce packaging to what product safety requires. We developed our own double-wall aluminium jar to replace heavier glass, and designed rectangular bottles so that shipments use space efficiently. Our product boxes, shipping boxes and filling material are made of kraft paper, which is widely recyclable. We keep plastic to a minimum and print in a single colour.
